3rd person

Postby Parapraxis on Mon Dec 01, 2003 6:05 am

You should make it 3rd person... it would be much cooler to be able to see yourself as your character.. and if done correctly 3rd person aiming etc.. can be just as good as it would be in 1st.. .. just something to think about i guess? Seems like it would be a better idea for a vampirish game.. to use 3rd person.. otherwise i would think it would lose its style..and effect in first.. and just become another shooter.. and not really something dark, cool and something more original ... with cool characters.. 8O

Hi there,

yeah Thirdperson mode is selectable.
So you are able to play the way you prefer.

Althought i may add an serverside variable to prevent advantages over firstperson mode.

If the serverside var is enabled, players will only see other players they could also see when in firstperson mode.

So "cheating" like watching behind corners with the Thirdperson cameras will not be possible.

Basicly if you can see the player in firstperson mode you can also see it in thirdperson mode, if not then not.

I dont know if i already mentioned it but i coded a simple stunt system which includes
rolling and diving in all directions.

Althought i havent decided if both Slayers and Vampire will be able to do stunts.

so is this game going to resemble games like Jedi Knight series or Legends(a tribes clone)?

if you are refering to the stunts/thirdperson thing, then yes you could compare it to jedi knight

1. Yes, why not?
2. We are not using the Q3 Engine :)

thirdperson is already supported in q3 aside from the fact that we are not using quake3 :)

Why not toggle 3rd person? It's worked well in many a game. :)

i would like to have a key assigned to switch between first and third person.
So everyone can choose what he likes.

I vote for both, so that you can toggle between one or the other at will. (like in The Specialists, Operation Flashpoint, Hidden & Dangerous, ect.)

It worked fine for The Specialists, they managed to get it so when you can't see someone in first-person, it doesn't show them in third either.

TS's crosshair moves wierdly in 3rd person though. :\

I say make it toggle-able, again like TS.
