ehm.. no it doesn't work that way.

Anyway remember that if you want realistic physics in a multiplayer game, an increase of bandwidth load is inevitable which could lead to lag.

So, no uber physics engine for now in nosferatu

actually I have got another possible way that makes physics at least in terms of rigid body dynamics not all that unlikely in the near future. Will give that a try later on, I have got some other stuff that needs to be done first.

I just of something regarding ragdoll physics and vampire staking.
Scenario: assuming ragdoll physics are implemented in the future
I unload my double barrel shotgun on Vampire Matt. Vampire Matt's ragdoll physics kick in and his body goes flying into a small cramped space between a barrel and a wall. Vampire Matt's body assumes a contorted position.
"Crap, I can't find his bloody heart!!!!". My slayer stakes and stakes at what he percieves to be the chest/heart area but Vampire Matt does not die. Vampire Matt suddenly resurrects and proceeds to rip my throat off.

Will ragdoll physics interfere with the staking process?

No, since basically the body doesn't fly away when you shoot somebody. Ragdolls will be used more along the lines of showing a realistic going down thing.

Thus: No shooting corpses around after they are dead.

Imagine it like this:

You unload your shotgun into a vampire he "dies", falls backwards, the limbs etc. move realistically ragdollish around (instead of the whole model playing a pre-animated animation), then you run to his corpse and kill him.

It won't be "Hey lets shoot his body around the whole map" ragdolls nor a "OMG look I shot this vamp and he's flying over the whole map damn I can't stake him !"

Is this what sagdoll is or is that different?

Sagdolls are completely serverside, with no skeletal system underneath. Its just a couple of models/entities (legs,arms,head,body), which get attached to each other serverside. It then approximates the ragdoll effect for each bodypart.

But yeah basically our ragdolls will be a bit like ragdolls, but they will look better and more realistic (I hope :P), plus the server/bandwidth load will be the roughly the same as with regular death anims
